Shirley-based online art exhibition opens on Friday

SHIRLEY – “What’s Old Is New Again” is the theme of an online group show called “Under the Bed”, in which artists have selected their favorite work. Participating artists include CM Judge, Ruth Nelson, Sue Norton, Helen Obermeyer Simmons, Joanne Stowell, Carolyn Todd, Susan Wadsworth and Elsa Voelcker. The exhibition opens on Friday January 15, 2021 and originates from the Sitka Gallery in Shirley, Mass.

The Massachusetts Central Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA), in partnership with Tamar Russell Brown and the Sitka Gallery, has coordinated the exhibition which will run from January 15 to February 26, 2021. The exhibition includes paintings, pastels and watercolors. , and photographs.

Carolyn Todd’s paintings present a naturalistic view of the landscape. Elsa Voelcker takes traditional black and white photographic portraits and color nature scenes. CM Judge’s work is based on an expansive gaze that recognizes the interdependence of all things. Susan Wadsworth’s modern abstract pastel landscapes are inspired by her sense of place. Sue Norton’s plays are essentially self-portraits that describe her personal truth. Joanne Stowell’s work centers on the theme of a realistic depiction of motherhood. Ruth Nelson’s photographs are a conscious evocation of experiences inspired by Buddhist teachings. Helen Obermeyer Simmons’ images are inspired by her ancestors and are created using historical photographic processes of Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown.

The Women’s Caucus for Art was founded in 1972 in conjunction with the College Art Association. WCA is committed to recognizing the contribution of women in the arts. It is a unique national organization in its multidisciplinary and multicultural composition of artists, art historians, students, educators and museum professionals.
